Tasted blind. Apricot, brandy, bruléed sugar nose. Dried apricot palate with tea, a bit of custard, drying out and obviously very old but persistent in the mouth and not falling off a cliff. Clearly Sauternes but not much more to guess...

SLDS Single Bottle Dinner: Mandarin, molasses, burnt toffee and caramel - shows some oxidisation but it hides behind the more pleasant aromatics. Fresh flavour on the palater with plenty of caramel sweetness as well. Good lift and brightness toward the medium length finish.

Avery Family Cellar Wine Dinner - The Worst Wine Dinner of my life (The Grill Room at Rosewood DC): Perfectly mature complex nose displaying exquisite yellow fruit, apricot, peach melba, crème brulee, a hit of botrytis, red tea, butter scotch and honey. Still showing exceptional concentration, beautifully layered opulent yellow fruit, silky and polished, bright acidity and an incredibly long finish that resonates. Incredible showing.

Kelly, Kevin, RJ and Tom's excellent NYC adventure; 12/1/2017-12/3/2017 (New York City): Dark ambler with perfect fill level. Intense deeply toned nose displaying sweet dry fruit, dry apricot, dry fig, dark caramel, molasses, honey, baking spices and noticeable VA. Excellent concentration, intense dry fruit driven palate impression, mouth puckering acidity and a long intense dry fruit and VA driven finish. This is drinking like a Madeira.

Kelly, Kevin, RJ and Tom's excellent NYC adventure; 12/1/2017-12/3/2017 (New York City): We pour the rest as John the sommelier wishes to try. Not changed much, more like Madeira, really intense with noticeable VA.
