This one lasted about a day after purchase. That rich taste isn't syrah, it's the classic blend of grenache (mostly) with ripe syrah and a little mourvedre. An elevated CdR, the comfort food of wines, like mac and cheese with a little funghi, truffle if you have it, but porcini or morel or chanterelle will do, too. I'm almost embarrassed to buy wine that is so easy to drink, but that's why we go back to it. Good? Very good. Not outstanding, but you can't have mindblowing anything every night, can you? Or is it just mindblowing that something can always be very good?

Nose: Surprisingly insubstantial. The first impression is a chemical profile of alcohol and ammonia. Additional whiffs reveal some mint and spice, but, again, very few floral or berry aromatics whatsoever.
Taste: Needs time to open; it's a real hard-drinking rocker at first open. The structure and acidity can be overpowering. After a while, though, some nice vanilla, bramble and spice notes emerge. You can see the potential here. But once that window closes, the taste thins out, leaving a thin, grapey cough syrup behind.

Cotes du Rhone (SF Wine Trading Company): Dark ruby. Bootstrap black fruit nose speaks of Syrah. Thick, just short of syrupy palate with a one dimensional flavor that combines blackberry and graphite. Strong acidity. Not bad.

Robust Rhône! (Blackwell's Wines & Spirits): Nicely ripe and juicy, albeit simple. 60% Mourvèdre, 20% Carignan, 15% Syrah, 5% Grenache. 87-88
