In OCNJ, last bottle of this...heeding prior notes planned to decant and let it sit for a while. Half bottle first night
Medium red/purple, slight bricking. Nose showing dark fruits, spice, fib, balsamic. Palate spice tinged red and blue fruits, black pepper, cocoa. Spice persists through the mid palate. Medium weight and finish.
This wine really redeemed itself, last tasting was off. The spice/fruit combo is really nice. I don't think this improves from here, would drink over next 2-3 years

Consistent with my prior note. I'm not so used to new world grenaches, but this is a bit of an oddball wine, although no sign it's sliding downhill. Food friendly, light to medium bodied. This is the rare bottling where the 2011 is materially better than the 2010. Still, I'm a sold 3 points below CT consensus.

When I had the chance to buy 2 bottles of this (as well as 2 of the '10) at well under half of the retail price, I jumped at it, as I usually enjoy, though rarely drink, American grenaches, and I'd never had a Favia before but had heard excellent things. I didn't decant, but opened for about an hour before first glass. The nose was relatively muted, but the wine was a full on attack of baking and other spices, wet forest floor, slightly tart cherries and red fruit. Still has a strong backbone of acidity and tannins, although they integrated as I drank, particularly on the second and (now) third night. Even with the acidity, it doesn't have that mouth watering quality that some CdPs that I love do, nor quite the funk and medicinal qualities (which, description notwithstanding, I view generally as positives). Surprise #1: you could easily confuse this wine with a rich RRV pinot, like Lynmar. Surprise #2: there was lots of sediment in the bottom. If you like your wines more integrated, consider a lengthy decant, and my sense is that this wine may get better, certainly is in no danger of fading. I look forward to the other 3 I bought. That said, maybe I'm a tough grader, but I can't score it as high as others on CT, but at what I paid for it--a bit over $30--I think it was a screaming value.

Had this in OCNJ, PnP. Prior bottles of this wine, and all my Favia wines have been outstanding. This started out very tight and became a bit austere. Most noticeably was the alcohol was overwhelming the fruit. Given prior tasting experiences, this was surprising
After first glass I moved my guests on to another wine. Hard to say if this was flawed and what the flaw may have been. Not likely that a couple years of bottles age turned the wine...I tried the wine again a day later, slightly more settled but still not what I had remembered from prior tastings
No rating as this was a confusing experience for this bottle. Prior bottles have been outstanding and all my Favia wines have been well made and age worthy...

Nose of black cherry, pepper, allspice, and fig, same on the palate, big body, very tasty, mouth filling fruit, at its best, time to enjoy, terrific wine, and a long, flavorful finish.
