Plenty of spice to the nose along with blood plum and raspberry fruit. It is deep and dense in the mouth with ripe fruits that have a meaty edge. It is quite plush texturally speaking and has ripe tannins carrying the finish.
Perhaps a bit tight and closed, it opened up somewhat over several hours, with a descent dose of minerality, subdued fruit flavors, some earth, no apparent brett. Nice mouthfeel. More on the balanced, and less on the big bruiser side of the spectrum than I expected. Tannins fine and in balance....while not particularly apparent, I think this has the balance to age.
