  • Another Chapoutier Masterclass. I really love this cuvee which is under rated and a bargain in the context of Chapoutier’s Ermitages (shuuut, don’t tell anyone!)
Tasted in Magnum, opened 4/5h ahead and poured a little glass.
Wine is singing, gaining complexity towards secondaries as it continues to open, great presence and length on the palate. A pure Syrah with a delicate barrel ageing.
Not as profound as the 2012 tasted recently, but honestly, I can’t get enough

  • Took to the OK. Mixed berry and black plum fruit elegantly tempered by time. Elegantly spicy with subdued tannins and leathery secondary nuances. Excellent and drinking perfectly right now--so glad to have another bottle.

  • Clear bright red. Medium intense elegant nose, berry, black cherry, spice and forest floor. Dry fresh berry and plum flavours and a medium long finish.

    Pure and elegant Syrah.

  • On opening I was a little disappointed - green and not very Hermitage-like. But with a couple of hours in a decanter it had relaxed and was showing more mature leathery fruitcake character, along with a bit of raw meat. You can happily drink this now, very pleasurable, I didn't take a note as such as it came along towards the end of the meal I and I just wanted to enjoy it, which I did greatly.
