  • More interesting and less flamboyant compared to the 2003, still with lots of primary fruit on the typical flavors of cherry and raspberry for des Tours. Notes of garrigue and pepper as well. I think this has gained in weight since my last bottle. No hurry here.

  • I think I enjoyed this more than my last btl. Lovely aromatics: des Tours Vacqueyras specific black raspberry, incense, brown sugar, a hint of mint and garrigue...the flamboyant nose this has in its youth has been toned down, and it is so elegant. On the palate: cherry pit, sweet black raspberry, bitters, and very soft, almost evanescent, tannin on the finish. A stunner.

  • Pop and pour. Less flamboyant aromatics than I usually find with this wine, buy there is still a core of black raspberry liqueur and incense, with the des Tours signature a little softer than usual; brown sugar and earth toned down a bit. On the palate, good acidity, and red currant with cherry pit, loads of spiced brown sugar, and minty herbs. Excellent, and no hurry whatsoever to drink.

Day 2: open, unrefrigerated on the counter overnight. Slightly more cherry pit bitterness and the tannin shows a bit more, but otherwise essentially unchanged from last night. If this btl is representative, then there is no hurry to drink.

  • A great vintage for the des Tour, the fruit is constrained and less flamboyant compared to other vintages tasted recently (2003/04). There is finesse here, a core of brown fruit, earth and spices. Impressive structure. Will definitely last for another 5 years.

  • Fully ready now, this opens up with a perfumed nose of flowers and raspberries. The fruit is soft and warm, dark, ripe plums come to mind, and there is good underlying mark from the soil. A full wine, generous and giving. No reason to hold back anymore.
