Beautifully balanced, with fruit, acid and tannins all progressing together and certainly meeting expectations for a more classic style. Darker, savory secondary flavors and aromas are already adding attractive complexity. Very good at this point, potentially excellent in coming years but I would suggest its just coming into its prime drinking window and will drink well for another decade if stored properly.
Dark hued. Cherry and cedar on the nose. Flavors of red fruit, tobacco and smoke. Fruit is fading fast and the secondary flavors are ascending. Paired well with a chicken, olive and preserved lemon tagine.
Pnp through Nuance Wine Finer. Getting more on the nose this time. Dark red fruit, a little heat and a little oak. Notes otherwise fairly similar -- On the palate, meaty with moderate tannins, healthy (but not overwhelming dose of oak). The finish is very tart though, and throws off the balance. For the price, a decent wine, but nothing to write home about. 87-pts. Aloha!

(Bodegas Ondarre Rioja Reserva) A deep and rich hue here, an opaque core, and a dusty cherry-red rim. It looks quite youthful still, despite its five years. The nose kicks off with some exuberant fruits, with a layer of smoky oak edged with an attractive meaty element, then followed by elements of leather, tar, rosehips, cherries and tobacco. On the palate it is slightly fat and creamy but well underpinned by slightly charcoaly oak tannins. This is a well polished wine which has, apart from the grit of the tannins underneath, a quite seamless character, with delightful flavours of dark, intense, bitter raspberries and coffee grounds. A very appealing wine, and certainly this is very good value at this price.
