  • A dark and brooding wine, with overtones of toffee and marmalade. A bit like a tawny on steroids. Very sippable.

  • An excellent vintage port only now approaching maturity. Long finish with lovely, lingering tannins, good acidity, subdued sweetness, and a complex aroma and palate. Will continue to evolve for a long time yet.

  • Colour of blood orange and rust. Nose is initially dominated by alcohol; under that, there's rotting leaves and some black fruit. Lots of alcohol on the palate as well, but it's smooth, like a good vodka. Tannins have almost faded away to nothing; the structure is still intact, but falls apart on the tongue like sorbet. Although there are strong notes of decay on the nose, there are none on the palate, which shows concentrated blackberry and cherry juice, and a warm finish of orange zest and dark chocolate. Irresistably gluggable now, but the notes of decay and disappearing tannins suggest that the wine is irreversably in decline; drink now.
