I must admit I'm a sucker for Chilean Carmenères and this one from Santa Rita is my favorite by far. Always deep dark inky black in color with lots of stuffing, so make sure to brush your teeth and scrape your tongue afterwards! Lots of aromatics in which a distinct green, herbal scent stands out, that reminds me of unripe Cabernet Franc. However, along with some smoky tones this always seem to work for me in these wines, I suppose because it is balanced by lots of underlying dark fruit combined with fine acidity and no excess in alcohol. There is not much complexity in this wine but it has all the necessary features to provide pleasure without breaking the bank.
