Drank side by side with '12 Carter three kings. This has a muted nose but has nice depth and is silky smooth. If I was drinking tomorrow I would choose the Schrader but if I was drinking in 3 years I would put $ on Carter.
Decanted for 3 hours. Beautiful black fruit and lead pencil. Round mouth feel and light tannin but with good structure. If this is an "off" year for schrader I'm looking forward to the 2012s in the cellar.
Definitely not up to par of any previous Schrader I've had, but this is still very good. I don't see this lasting a long time, it drinks well out of the gate but the following day it fell apart which is unusual for a Schrader. I'm happy that 2011 didn't produce as much Schrader and this supposedly is the worse of the bunch. A very good wine overall, early drinking window, not worth the price.
Opened too early to really judge this wine accurately. Decanted for three hours and it opened up a little. The fruit is there, but everything is a little simple and thin. Likely a result of the vintage, unfortunately. Hoping it will get better with time.
