The wine looks rosy colored. The legs are medium. There is light sediment in the bottle. It smells like blackberry, raspberry, cherry, plum, forest floor, sandalwood, cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, acacia, rose, jasmine leaves, eucalyptus, Herbes de Provence, hazelnut, tobacco, mint, coffee, vanilla and mushroom. It tastes like raspberry, black currant (cassis), cherry, plum, mineral, forest floor, toast, sandalwood, meaty and hazelnut. The body is medium. The wine has silky texture. The wine finishes long. The wine has high acidity.

Served at the 4S in HK. Small glass sample generously shared by LR.
Slightly disappointing, given the pedigree. More advanced than it should have been, even though I know it had been open for a while. Would have gussed from the 80s or late 70s if blind. The nose was still there but not very precise or clean, and the acidity was becoming quite pronounced.
Perhaps not the best bottle of this? Or maybe in general DRC 1996s are going somewhat downhill, given my fairly recent experience with a '96 La Tache as well. Regardless, I don't think this is going to get any better, so would encourage drinking up soon.
Of course, any chance to drink DRC is a privilege, and thanks so much to LR for the generous pour!

Burgundy Bachelor Party: The most reserved of a trio of 96’s today vs Rousseau Chambertin and Meo Cros Parantoux. Dense, dark, and delicious but only giving a tiny bit of what it has to offer. Give this 20 years.

02700/15330, E/R/LT trio. Classic blue fruit at core with a layer of perfumed spice, gaining dimension, well-done vintage. 94-95
