Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 89.3 pts. and median of 90 pts. in 9 notes)

Tasted by JScott on 12/25/2008: Some mustiness on the nose and something slightly muddied on the palate. Didn't really get a chance with this - or anything else I opened on this night - because of an insatiable and non-discriminating crowd. Judgment reserved, but it doesn't matter because it was my last bottle any way. (458 views)
Tasted by chetjan on 11/27/2008 & rated 87 points: Didn't like how this wine was evolving. The fruit was overwhelmed by other elements and it drank heavy for a burgundy. I concur with vendange's post that the wine was "musty." Even after a couple hours decanting the mustiness on both the nose and palate did not abate much. This wine really declined as it aged. I bought a case of it on release and drank a bottle every year. I think this producer builds wines for consumption sooner rather than later. (458 views)
Tasted by vendange on 3/22/2008 & rated 89 points: Excellent nose with damp earth, fresh shiitake mushrooms, slightly stewed cherries, brown spice, a whiff of oak toast, and a bit of black licorice. But, there were also some musty aromas and flavors on the palate (three veteran tasters agreed "musty, not corked") and some grainy tannins on the close. (704 views)
Tasted by good old ludwig van on 2/21/2008 & rated 90 points: Opened to celebrate a good month at work. Didn't decant, but consumed over 5 1/2 hours.

Bouquet of scorched earth, cherry, and, later, coffee. This seems to have lots of life left, as some tannins are still evident. On the palate: black cherry, stewed fruits with a bit of spice, and at one point in the night I thought just a hint of petrol/tarriness. (802 views)
Tasted by winefool on 9/11/2007 & rated 90 points: Lieu-dits-Cru Dugat vs. Dugat-Py Dinner (Knightsbridge): Full soft red color. Medium full tight spicy red fruit nose with an herbal note. Full spicy black cherry fruit with some tannin and a coffee note on the finish. (1113 views)
Tasted by wineismylife on 10/14/2006: win's 40th Birthday Party (win's house in The Colony, TX): WIMLNR,NOWA,WS95

Tasted October 14, 2006 at win’s 40th birthday party. Opened and served immediately in a Riedel restaurant series Bordeaux wine glass. No notes. Sorry. (2068 views)
Tasted by win on 10/14/2006 & rated 90 points: Blind Birthday Tasting (Win's House - Texas): Not a huge Pinot fan, but I liked this. I guess Chris actually knows what he's doing. (1968 views)
Tasted by JScott on 7/9/2006 & rated 90 points: Young. Bright, plenty of structure. Hold for another 5 years. (1515 views)
Tasted by jrufusj on 4/21/2006: TTG#7: Hamina Comes to Town (and we all drink good wine) (Keyaki Grill at Capital Tokyu; La Fève Wine Bar (Tokyo)): Clean clear color between the Ponsot and the Beaux Frères. Oak on the nose in the form of spice and cola. In fact, more spice than fruit on nose. With time, settles down enough to show some Gevrey strawberry on the nose. In time the oak components fade from the nose almost entirely. Palate is balanced and clean and earth and fruit driven and completely happy. Tannin is still evident, but not obtrusive at all. The only issue is some remaining oak that shows up only on the finish. I didn’t really want to like this, but I couldn’t help it. Nicely typical after the oak faded. (1528 views)

About red wine
Varietal character (Appellation America) | Varietal article (Wikipedia)
Pinot Noir is the Noble red grape of Burgundy, capable of ripening in a cooler climate, which Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot will not reliably do. It is unpredictable and difficult both to grow and to vinify, but results in some of the finest reds in the world. It is believed to have been selected from wild vines two thousand years ago. It is also used in the production of champagne. In fact, more Pinot Noir goes into Champagne than is used in all of the Cote d'Or! It is also grown in Alsace, Germany, the U.S., Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Croatia, Serbia, Italy, and so forth, with varying degrees of success.

Les vins de Bourgogne (Bureau interprofessionnel des vins de Bourgogne)
Burgundy - The province of eastern France, famous for its red wines produced from Pinot Noir and its whites produced from Chardonnay. (Small of amounts of Gamay and Aligoté are still grown, although these have to be labeled differently.) The most famous part of the region is known as the Cote d'Or (the Golden Slope). It is divided into the Cote de Beaune, south of the town of Beaune (famous principally for its whites), and the Cote de Nuits, North of Beaune (home of the most famous reds). In addition, the Cote Chalonnaise and the Maconnais are important wine growing regions, although historically a clear level (or more) below the Cote d'Or. Also included by some are the regions of Chablis and Auxerrois, farther north.

ANNATE
2007 annata di grande interesse anche per i rossi, leggibili ed espressivi come raramente avviene per i Borgogna così giovani.
