  • Sourced from Chambers St NYC and consumed with modestly spicy Thai takeout. My first 26-year-old gewurz, and frankly my expectations were low. The fill and cork were great, color a deep gold. I'm expecting serious oxidation, but no! What emerged, instead, was a more mellow version of what one might expect from a much younger Grand Cru gewurz: lychee, apricot, maybe some nutmeg. But there was also a waft of both smoke and petrol that you might find in a riesling of similar terroir and vintage. And quite a long finish. I didn't think a "dry" gewurz -- even from such an exalted site -- could live so long. A very pleasant surprise.

  • From memory - Another really killer Weinbach gewurtz. Rich and concentrated with nice spiciness. Some sweetness, but relatively balanced. Drinking fine and holding well. 11/04
