Unbelievable qualities after 50 years of sleep. Dark brownish color, smooth and complex. Nose is quite subtle. Great effort that survived the pass of time.

This bottle was much better than the previous one I drank. Cork in great shape for its age, wine still relatively youthful in coloration with just a bit of browning. Pretty tasty right out of the bottle, dominated by VA odors about an hour after opening, then finally that faded and everything came into focus after two hours. Still a decent amount of dried cherry fruit, all kinds of old Barolo funk, absolute magic with a variety of dishes. Got really lucky with this bottle.

Cork was in excellent shape, wine was turbid even after sitting upright for over a week but very little large sediment present. Pale red with very little bricking. Consumed over the course of six hours and was actually quite good out of the bottle which isn't often the case with these older Baroli. Let sit in decanter for a couple of hours before really getting into it. Nose of VA, barn, mushrooms. The palate was less impressive and getting tired, diluted cherry fruit, decent acid, and a somewhat hollow finish with some lingering tannins. Food helps carry this particular bottle and it was very nice along with pan roasted shitake mushrooms. On its own it is an interesting drink but definitely past prime. Hopefully my other bottles have aged better. It is possible that I should have consumed this before the long decant (which usually brings out the best in these bottles) since it was open so early so that's something to consider for future bottles.
