This is my first taste of Dornfelder, and I'm not sure how to rate it. It is a very soft, fruity, somewhat simple, slightly sweet, almost light bodied red wine. The alcohol is only 10%. It is sneakingly tasty. Lot's of cherry, strawberry and red raspberry fruit. Not very acidic. Sweet finish.

Smells of raw beets and cranberries, which is quite unique. Good acidity and very fruity, but very different than what I expected. Not at all like Blaufrankisch or Zweigeldt. Would be best served with earthy soups or meats. Ever so slightly off-dry, most likely to counter the acidity.

Clear garnet red with magenta highlights. Looks as young as it is. Intense (even when chilled) musty cran-grapey nose; echoed on the off-dry palate. Light body with some super soft tannins at the very end of the finish. A good red for the holiday table, especially with a (northern style) pork dish. Solid example of the style. Drink now.

Tasty and reliable. Love the screw cap. Great with grilled pork.
