Four months later, and the wine has evolved, mostly in a good way. Decanted 45 mins. ahead. Very deep, nearly opaque garnet. Nice nose of rhubarb, black cherry, pomegranate, dried herbs, which showed floral notes after about an hour. Medium-bodied on the palate, with pleasant weight that belies the inky color. Fruit-led flavors, well integrated with some brambly tones. Neither soft nor tart, acid balance is toward drinkability. Nice finish as earthy fruit flavors hang on amid low grip and very low tannins. Quite pleasant overall, it seems to show the results of low-intervention winemaking. These techniques make wines more unpredictable, but here the results are worthy of respect.

Decanted 1 hr. ahead off of some sediment, and sampled over the next hour. Very dark opaque garnet. Shy but interesting nose of black pepper, black cherry, white pepper, olive; pretty closed-in. Rich on the palate, as cherry and green pepper flavors lead. Acids are quite firm, not tart, supporting a full body. Finishes well, with some grip, some length, and low to moderate tannins. I may be robbing the cradle on this one; it may have potential for the future. The number is a compromise between what I taste now and what I can imagine in a few years. Well, maybe several years.

This was quite good and challenged pre-conceived notions (formed around 2005-2007) around what Central Coast wines taste like.
Started off a little hot and fruity, but it blew off after an hour. Nice mix of new and old world, but my favorite part was the acidity! Gave it a nice lift and brightness.
Thanks Bay Grape!
