Decanted for an hour before drinking; we consumed 2 bottles with Thanksgiving dinner. The wine is heavier than a typical pinot; the color is darker and the wine less opaque. The nose and palate are indistinct, as if that heaviness is masking the subtleties of a traditional pinot. I think this is a bit of the emperor's new clothes; I believe you could find six or more $20 pinots that you will enjoy more than this limited production expensive one. I know I can.
Sourced from southern Napa, just east of, but outside the boundaries of Los Carneros. Aged 22 months in oak. Burgundian style with a lighter texture. Aroma and flavor profile shows cherry, raspberry, vanilla, and some green earth notes. Tasty, and nicely done for a winery known more for it Bordeaux varietals. Nice finish.
