Dark crimson, reticent nose of cherry vanilla, cassis, wet earth, mocha and hints of leather, round and chalky on the attack with red fruit, black pepper, grilled meats and drying tannins, medium length finish with dried herbs, mint, black cherry all turning slightly astringent
Note: Judging from my review 11 years ago, either this is a bad bottle (although I bought the two together) or time was not on it's side
Lots of browning at the edges here, and the color is a pale crimson--age definitely showing on this bottle. Aromas of leather, tar and black fruits. Medium bodied, still some fruit here though fading, lots of tertiary elements here: meat, leather & earth. Nothing particularly jumps out at me here, but it's a very pleasant, well-balanced, nice example of an aged Hermitage. Drink up sooner rather than later, and no need to decant from what I can tell from this bottle.
