As always with Ridge Monte Bello, this is too sweet for casual enjoyment at this age. Can be enjoyable just to sip and revel in the flavors and can work alongside a tasting menu, but just too much for normal cuisine. Sweet, savory, strong tannins, strong acidity. Very good. Wait.
Clearly young. Tasted a sample and then let slow ox for 3 hrs. Initial taste was tight with a multi-faceted nose. After 3 hrs, this wine became a beautiful young wine with all sorts of structure that glide across the palate.
Just wanted to get a data point on these, and if you want to taste a well packed young monte bello, slow ox for 3 to 4 hrs, and enjoy this beauty as she is.
Ridge Monte Bello Tasting (Cupertino, CA): A lot more mintiness than the 2014, black fruit, slight vegetal, very complex nose; palate is incredibly balanced, firm tannin, black fruit, mint, wonderful; great mouthfeel, long finish. 96-97+
