16% abv. Medium ruby. Expressive red and black aromas. On the palate, raspberry, black cherry, black pepper and spice. Nice complexity, and the spice element makes an otherwise excellent wine distinctive and special.
Not my favorite of Carlisle '11s but this also seems to be in a tough place. Great expressive nose (after an hr of air) of brambly fruit and exotic spice. Palate was much tighter, high toned, and showing some alcohol. Finish with a touch of vanilla and some tannin. Not as seamless as most Carlisle Zins, as they have created quite an expectation. Still, despite the 16% alcohol had plenty of freshness and structure. Needs a couple years to settle.
