2001 Burgs (Noize): An unusual but certainly attractive nose, that had a note of popcorn-flavoured jellybean. Complex and again idiosyncratic on the palate: sweet yet fresh, with both smoked meat and strawberry sundae! The superb depth of tart red fruit kept the wine extremely drinkable.

Red Burgundy GC 01 (London): Single blind in flight of four. This one fell off vs the other two that weren't corked, but the competition was also too stiff (DRC Riche and Engel GE). On it's own would have been a lovely wine no doubt, in context it appreared slightly clumsy and just didn't hold as much interest.

I think this wine needed a decant to open up. I also think additional age could benefit. Very little tertiary aromas. It does have the Vosne Oriental Spice and color is not have a lot of amber either. Holding up well. Some sois Bois and terroir. I was expecting more fireworks; considering their neighbors are so esteemed. Medium bodied and more 2001 elegance. I did get the sense that the grapes were not completely ripe. Tannins are there; and would suggest a more savory meal with it; than our white fish. I did get the sense that the wine is overpriced; and perhaps a Vosne Romanee Premiere Cru would be as good as this one.

This has gained a lot in recent years. GC mid palette and length. Nose with spice and the nose itself probably weaker than the wine overall.
