  • Slight amber color, pear, figs on the nose. Balanced. Very nice.

  • Back to form! This bottle was pale gold with a greenish tinge. Very rich, intense and complex aromas of wet stones, intense minerality, pears, lemons and honeydew. Medium bodied, with intense slate/stone/mineral flavors balanced with sharp pear, apples and lemons. The minerality/stone flavors are beautifully balanced with the fruit, giving it great complexity, freshness and, with air, a creamy mid-palate. The finish doesn't quite live up to the flavors-- medium length with minerals and lemons. Nevertheless, a beautiful, intense, complex Chablis.

  • Two bottles since the first one have showed bottle variation. One was clearly a step down (low 80's wine) and the other was an upper 80's wine-- similar flavor profile without quite the level of steeliness or complexity of flavors, but still very good. Not sure what to make of this, as the first bottle was truly fantastic. I have more to try so we'll see how it drinks down the road...

  • Medium rich gold. Wonderful nose of hazelnuts, ripe apples, sweet apricots, figs. Nice, complex aromas. On the palate, there's a strong initial attack-- this was initially "closed" and tannic but in an hour opened to apricots, hazelnuts, lemons, ripe apples, golden raisins, with steely and stony notes underlying the fruit. Great balance, beautiful moderately long finish.

  • 1997 Domaine Moreau et fils Chablis Valmur Grand Cru

12/18/03 at home. Quite dark yellow-burnished gold color. Very delicate bouquet, almost nonexistent. Little palate at first, but then its character began to assert itself. Lemony, minerally, creamy. elegant. Seems to grow in the mouth. I initially thought this wine was DOA. However, with air it appears to be at its peak of drinkability. 5-10-15-7-87/100
