it's really nice I can taste this again. fruity, concentrated flavours, firm tannins (a little powdery), medium bodied, brooding style. I thought it's already close to peak one year ago, however, it still has 2-3 years cellar potential from now, 2010 is a really good vintage for Central Otago.
dark red. typical Central Otago Pinot Noir nose: raspberry, fresh strawberry, a little closed. ripe red fruits flavour, balanced by crispy acidity. silky tannins with nice texture. medium(-) body. medium finish with spicy herbal hints.
it's disappointing that no complexity developed after one year aging, however the good side is that it's not spoiled like Villa Maria Cellar Selection P.N. Marlborough 2010, which are stored together with this one.
typical Central Otago Pinot Noir. cherry and black fruits in nose, warm, mild, jammy in mouth, medium(-) body, long finish. not complex but well balanced. a nice one.
I'd rather this one than its sibling from Marlborough, like "Villa Maria Pinot Noir Cellar Selection 2010 Marlborough ", which is a gold medals collector and WS 89 JR 17, but I think it's lean and too much candy-like flavours.
after 2010, Villa Maria gave up Central Otago and focused P.N. on Marlborough, it's not a smart decision, though it may be good to manage the business, they lost an elegant style in their product portfolio. now their single vineyard P.N. are all from Marlborough: Wairau Valley and Awatere River.
