  • Excellent after an hour or two from decant. Too much fruit and alcohol out of the bottle. Calmed noticeably after some time - developed nice balance. Definitely jammy and bold with lots of alcohol but overall ended up pleasantly balanced.

  • Not sure how someone could rate this an 84. Very nice Zin, better than the 2006. Bigger too.

  • Color was interesting - lighter, more red than black. Nose didn't have the typical crayola zin character, more red fruits, but unfortunately a very hot burning sensation. Rocket fuel... The taste had some interesting characteristics but also was blanketed by extreme heat. Made my mouth tingle after drinking. I'm 100% okay with huge wines, as long as they bring enough power to balance the heat (a few martinelli zins come to mind). This was too thin.

  • "The 2007 Dark Matter Zinfandel displays a complex nose of black pepper, plum, blackberry, dark chocolate and cedar. On the palate, concentrated flavors of black cherry, dried plum, black pepper spice and cedar create this medium to full bodied wine with a balanced finish." A very polished and smooth wine.

Not your ordinary Zin! The Mondavi sisters created a jewel of a wine. Like nothing I've ever had before. Drinks fabulously right now with very little decanting time. I'm a forever fan.
