Second bottle (of 2) purchased for very little from someone else's cellar. This had a nice nose at first decanting and a very brief period of fruit expression before fading fast. The color was a nice dark garnet with surprisingly little bricking and there was some tannin and ok acidity but the fruit was just gone and the secondary flavors non-existent. Nose was smokey, meaty and black fruited though...it did make a fine addition (as planned) to my beef stroganoff!

Didn't pay a lot for this but purchased because I had had some of their early wines and really liked them way back when, but had not had any in 15 years. This was past its prime for sure. Medium translucent garnet with brick edge. Nose opened up nicely after some time in the decanter and at about the 2 hour point was really very attractive with rich red and black fruit and some spice without much Zin alcohol (14.4% ABV). Palate was mostly washed out and a bit flat except for short burst along with the nose as with food (my wife's Chicken Paprika). I have another bottle and will drink soon or use as an example of a good but over the hill wine.

For Me, hands down the best Zin producer in America. Not pushing that on anyone, but no question for me. I bring these wines when people are drinking classe bordeaux and very often this is the favorite wine on the table. This 93 was fantastic. Still has a life ahead of it but just impressive wine in a style that is just not respected locally anymore. Not a lack of appreciation, more a lack of patience. DAMN!!! So good.

opened 30 minutes before pouring. excellent color and legs, a little sediment at top of bottle. cork in good shape. nose was good- no old wine smell, taste of black pepper and berries but not overly spicy. still has plenty of life left. The wine maker complained to us 20+ years ago that people drink his wine too young. well this one is 23 years and still good to go.
