  • Bought this more out of curiosity than anything a few years back, together with a lot of 07 white Burgundy, and some Austrian Riesling and GV to put aside since our oldest was born in 2007. While it looks like a good half of my Burgundy whites have already died the premox death, and my Austrian Rieslings seem tired too, these Austrian SBs (and perhaps also the GVs) seem to still have a long life ahead.
Would also agree with some of the earlier comments that these Austrian SBs are in a league of their own when it comes to complexity, have not had a Dagueneau that comes close to this, let alone the usual NZL SB fare.
Still a pale lemon yellow in the glass. Very complex aromas with yellow fruit, some smoked notes, some cat pee, and just a touch of grass. At the same time plenty of minerality, and citrus/acidity providing freshness. Some of the freshness can likely be attributed to the closure used, as this is the only wine I have ever seen sealed by a glass stopper. Very good length too.
Excellent even though I saw the Neumeister Moarfeitl from the same vintage even a touch higher in terms of aromatics and complexity.

  • The best Sauvignon Blanc I ever have tasted. Sorry for France, but this Austrian SB is marvelous.
Deep and extremely complex, because of the IZ = intercelluar fermentation this SB is totaly different from the reguar Zieregg. Yeasty and herbaceous, green berries, fresh fruits, green vegetables and spicy notes, much of wonderful floral aromas. Superb mineral notes. On the palate still young, powerful, deeply concentrated, extremely complex aromas, dried herbs, pepper, peppers, avocado othe fresh vegetables, wow - such a huge minerality an a perrfect and totally well balanced acidity, incredible length. Needs much of air, has a long life to go. Perfect wine.
