No bricking in the color. On the nose: Licorice and vanilla and stewed cherries. On the palate: Medium in body, toasted vanilla and cherry cola, silky mouth feel from tannins long ago integrated with a medium finish. Drink up.

Drank my last 1997 Poet and I was very pleasantly surprised. The wine has held up exceedingly well. Granted, I've taken very good care of it since I bought it but the wine was very well balanced, not overwhelming fruit or alcohol as I find so often with Calif Cabs. Nice smokiness, some tar, very pleasant, though not overwhelming nose, and nice medium body. I enjoyed the wine very much

Wine holding up very nicely - decant still for about one hour. Initial pour out of bottle nice, but wine went through a little funk after about 1/2 hour - picked up a little astrigency, that later blew off.
