During a tasting dinner of the Pipette group. Pnp but needed a good 30min to open up in the glass. The color is slightly evolved, medium garnet. Really beautiful nose of forest floor, black tea, dark fruit. The palate is polished but a little thin and cannot fully follow up on the nose, the weak 2011 showing a little. Nose 96, Palate 93

Dusty ruby red w. slightly watery edges and browish hue. Med intense bouquet, slightly reductive and animale. Med acid, med(+) tannin, med(+) body and intensity, and med alc. Strong masculine profile w. some minerality. Fruit reduced thought black cherries are still in the foreground w. more tertiary notes start to peek out. A liquorice-like tannic structure dominates, making it a tiny bit harsh. Med+ long finish.
Better on day two, more coherent and harmonious, softer and balanced w. redcurrants more present and no animale or reduction.
Served in both Zalto Burgundy and Riedel Veritas Old World Pinot. Riedel won.
Keep! (or give plenty of air)
My notes: Black cherries, strawberries, redcurrants, liquorice, truffles, vegetable stock.

Acker April 2019 (Marea in NYC): Again very light and more in that ethereal style (although not quite as refined as the Clos St Jacques right before). This is more pepper dominated. Fruit also a bit lighter and perhaps a touch less ripe.

Dark fruit, black pepper and earth on the nose. Sweet red and black fruit on the palate. Smoke and earth. A bit thin and rough in the mid palate. Nice grip on the finish.
