Purchased on release for $28. Waited too long to open this one, as it is clearly over the hill. Flat and thin, with fading blackberry fruit. No spice or verve. Tannins just about gone. Drink up.

Not giving much upon first opening. Good colour, consistent through. Very tart, a bit tannic and biting. Some earth and mushroom. Decent with dinner, but really blossom a couple hours later. Rich nose with blackberries and truffles. Solid blackberries fruit, bits of anise and earth. Gained in body and a good finish. Delicious with cheeses.

Le Cigare Volant vertical: Very tannic and tight, almost chewy. Giving little on the nose. Tart fruit core, pulls at the mouth. Short finish, slight hints of earth. Not at all unpleasant, but very hard to read.

Very good. Soft tannins and strong acidity upfront. Nose of brambles, saddle leather and moist earth. Decanting sorted it out to very nice strong acid fruit like blackberries with some saddle notes. Long finish with distinct butterscotch notes. Well-integrated and very nice. Only marred by less than ideal pairing - roast chicken part a good pairing, spices not.
