Decanted for about an hour before starting consumption. Olive and black fruits on the nose. Oak still dominates throughout on the palate, but after you get past that (was pretty heavy to us and we do like Cali wines) the palate has some northern Rhône characteristics. Nice olive tapenade finish with perhaps a touch of heat at the end. If I had other bottles, I would let this sit and see if the oak becomes more integrated in 2 to 3 years. It shows very little signs of aging at this point. Perhaps a longer decant may help as the oak presence decreased after 2 hours.

Big, inky black syrah, intense blueberry and currant palate but with no sweetness - the size and power are very new world / Australian, but the rest of the package is more northern Rhone, acid and tannin taming the fruit.

This is great stuff. Tasted a couple of years ago at winery and this wine stood out. Big with great depth and layers. Really hitting it's stride. Earth, woods, big black and blue berries. Amazing finish. Enjoy.

First tasted this at the Bacara resort in Santa Barbara...the 2010 wasn't available at the winery and the 2011 sold out. This is perhaps the best wine I've ever had. It's an unusual dark purple color, intensely smoky, bursting with flavor with a long finish. Amazing wine. Cost us $48 with our discount, which is the most I've ever paid, but for a special occasion, it's well worth it.
