  This was very good and showing a peek at its early drinking window; the nose was lovely with ripe strawberry and cherry leading into some damp earth and violet. The freshness of the red fruit is quite nice; the palate has a lovely balance with ripe red fruits, very nice acidity, and still plenty of underlying structure. This is certainly an older school style of Burgundy; not as polished as some of the current stuff, but I really liked it and I think it has plenty of upside ahead for at least another 10+ years.

  nice, easy drinking, almost too easy but then again pleasant as can be... had over four nights (with gas each night)... did the slow fade thing but still med bodied on night four... not sure this was worth the $130 I paid (incl. shipment and tax) but maybe five years from now I'll find a different experience with my remaining bottles

  "Red/White Burgs vs. New-world Pinots & Chards" theme'd session.
  
  This was PnP'ed, but left to slow-ox in bottle and it must've been ~3-hrs later by the time we got to it. The '09 & '10 Gaunoux Rugiens have always been over-performing, IMO. No different this round. A most beautiful bouquet of violets, spice & bright-red berries. Most guesses immediately gravitated towards Vosne. Silky/satiny (with just the right amount of ripeness) on the palate, this had great freshness/cut/lift that made the wine seemed almost ethereal and airy. Just gorgeous!

  I assumed this would be too early to open but I did it anyway. Carpe diem, my friends. I don't want to get all verklempt about it, but better early than never or something to that effect, especially since I luckily have a few more of these to fall back on.
  
  My assumption was 100% correct and day 1 was kind of a washout. A big impenetrable glass wall, with some hints of menthol and a detectable sub-surface muscularity. Day 2 is a dramatic and exciting revelation. The color is an attractive mid-ruby. But the largely shy nose from yesterday is now a veritable bouquet of deep red berry fruit and delightful spring flowers. Not what I expected at all. I wasn't wrong about the so-called muscularity, though. I'd describe it texturally in terms of watching a leopard walk. Sinewy and sleek with barely restrained power. There is some emergent cocoa, loamy earth and ripe red plum on the mid-palate but the flavors are still more or less locked down. A quiet intensity builds all the way to the refined finish.
  
  Don't have much more to say. I look at the community drink dates below and see 2024-2040. For once I'm in full agreement although I suspect the earlier date will be just about shaking itself out of the chrysalis. Hmm, earth, fruit, flowers, mammals, insects, jeez maybe it's a vinous incarnation of the lefthand panel of the Garden of Earthly Delights.

  Double blind tasting. Brief note. PnP. Transparent ruby red in the glass with a slightly watery rim. Nose and palate follow the color of the wine showing silky and ethereally light strawberry, watermelon rind, dried aromatic herbs, and chalky mineralité. Midpalate lacked good weight but I suspect this was because it didn't have a chance to breath. I think it may be in a dumb phase as well right now as it didn't want to evolve as some more time passed. This will be a complete wine with time, I'm sure, but let it sleep for now.
