At Jade Palace over a blinded Gevrey vs MSD Grand Cru theme. Dark red. A well defined Gevrey nose. Lots of meat, minerals, and rich dark fruit. Palate was well structured, slightly sweet (surprising for a 93), lots of minerality and acid, with tannins well resolved. Fruits were very primary still, rich and ripe with good floral components. This was an extremely well balanced wine, getting the vote of wine of the night from the majority, along with the Rousseau CDLR 2000. Great effort.
Tasting Group - White Truffle Dinner (Casa Aneff): Tasted alongside the ’93 Jadot Musigny, this bottle was also served blind. The nose was much more open with dark fruit and black pepper on the nose as well as hints of beef blood. This bottle is drinking very well right now, but probably lacks the same palate heft as the ’93 Jadot Musigny. This bottle is drinking really well right now.
Another Casual Burgundy Dinner (Storefront Company - Chicago IL): Open approx 4-5 hours before serving, not decanted. Meaty spice aromas with a good balance of black and red fruit with mushroom elements. Slightly less evolved on palate, with lots of power and supporting structure from start to finish. Very impressive today, this wine is certainly still improving.
