Ripe plums and cassis with balsamic, smoked spices and old leather. Good bouquet with secondary and tertiary notes after 2 hours of decanting. Palate echoed the nose, rich and velvety texture. Almost full-bodied in the mid-palate. Seamless transitions with a spicy and sweet finish. This still needs a few more years in the bottle for the tannins to integrate fully into the structure.

A: Deep Ruby N: Medium (+) intensity of black cherries, plum , violet and cassis (fruit is jammy and prune may be tertiary) with secondaries dominating of chocolate and menthol. Tertiaries of tobacco P: Dry, high tannin (ripe), medium (+) acid, high alcohol, full body , medium (+) intensity and long finish (medium plus for instr.) C: Though the alcohol is high, the intensity of fruit offers good balance. The length intensity and complexity means this is an outstanding wine. The fruit is not fresh or firmly primary and so I would not say that this is suitable for ageing.
Guesses: The black fruit, tannin and menthol (often the pyrazines show up as menthol in the Americas) took me to Cab Sav from Napa. However, the dominance of the chocolate and the ease with which I spotted the menthol should have put me in Malbec from South America. Cahors would be much more earthy and this was very fruit driven. The Napa Cab would have been less chocolatey and perhaps less menthol, tannins not as velvety and less sign of French Oak in some cases. French Oak in wide use for Malbec in Argentina

Amana WP Ski Trip: P/w no decant, 10 min glass time. Clear, very deep dark purple w/long stained legs. Huge, intoxicating nose. Full bodied, well rounded/integrated and balanced. Cab like and delicious. Long fine finish with dusty tannins. Ideal drinking window, nothing off. $40

Thick and opaque reddish black color. Ripe and sweet but also somewhat understated nose with brooding aromas of dark fruits, savory dark berries, some spicy wood and subtle floral undertones. The wine is dense and chewy on the palate with somewhat restrained flavors of very ripe blackberries, sweet boysenberries, some savory chokeberry tones, a little bit of peppery spice, a hint of herbal greenness and a touch of sour plums. The wine feels pretty serious and structured with relatively high acidity and very firm and somewhat grippy tannins, but also a bit warm with high alcohol. The finish is warm and moderately bitter with pronounced peppery spice and savory wood along with some ripe boysenberry and brambly blackberry tones and a hint of herbal greenness. The tannins lend a firm and lightly grippy touch to the aftertaste.
A surprisingly nice and serious Malbec with somewhat restrained character. The wine shows great balance between the acidity, the tannins and the body, but the fruit department feels somewhat underwhelming even after short decanting. Perhaps the wine was in a dumb phase or longer decanting might've helped. Furthermore, the alcohol was sticking out a bit too much. Surprisingly good, but not great. A bit too expensive at 39,90€, though.

Had a previous bottle with less decanting time (about 1 hour) and it was great but this one I followed the counter label instructions and left it in the decanter for 2 hours. It was not even close to what I remember, then again it could be me or it could be a bottle that doesn't represent the batch. You feel the oak and the alcohol but you miss the structure and tannins. I will not rate this one so I can try my last bottle with less decanting and follow the evolution it gets with the airing.
