A year ago I said this needed a year or two, this year I felt it was quite nice, the tannins having better integrated into the overall experience. The Sangio keeps it light on its feet, with the Sagrantino bringing some distinct rusticity. Though I have yet to find a Montefalco Rosso that I didn't enjoy, this one seems a bit young at this point. Tannins are on the harsher side, and could use a bit of time to come together. Give it a year or two and it should be nice.

Initially pretty closed on the nose, this eventually opened up to show wild dark red and black berry fruit, plum, and hints of licorice and fresh herbs. Big and bold in the mouth, although tame by Montefalco standards, especially considering its youth. Blackberry and other bramble fruit dominates here. It paired well with tagliatelle with lamb ragu, but the wine never fully came together and I'd have a hard time recommending it. Rated 0 on a scale of -1 to 3.
