And here we are a few years later. Decanted one hr. ahead off of some sediment. Deep garnet tinged with copper and brick. Nice, ripe nose that shows black cherry, cedar, pinewood, nutmeg, black pepper. Full-bodied on the palate, with ripe red and black fruits behind cigar-box flavors. A drying finish with light tannins. A dark Zin with bottle age, very pleasant.

ZAP Trade Tasting. Lovely nose of dark cherry fruit, earth, and touch of white pepper, more of the same on the palate, bottle opened 15 minutes earlier, medium body, tasty, needs decanting to enjoy or a year in the cellar, soft but supple, medium/long finish. $22 and worth it.

Decanted 90 mins. ahead. Deep ruby with some orange color. Nice peppery nose, with black and white pepper leading over blueberry, black cherry. It comes from the darker end of the spectrum, and it's mushroomy. Blackberry and coffee flavors in a medium-bodied but dark-flavored package. The firm acid backbone is one of the best things about this wine, giving it very good structure. Finishes with dry grip and light tannins. This is an excellent bottle, not terribly typical of CA Zin in structure. Could take a few years in the bottle.
