  • Cork almost black. Very tawny, almost brown colour. Stinky on the nose - like very ripe cheese - but not spoiled. Soft, mature and complex - you would not drink more than a glass or so. Interesting rather than highly enjoyable - all in all a very pleasant birth year wine experience

  • It began with pan drippings on the nose; meaty at first, but that soon faded. Another real treat from 1979--light on its feet, still good amount of acidity. Lots of ink at the end. Along with the Ausone, my favorite of the tasting. Others we had included Leoville Las Cases and Margaux.

  • On the nose, lots of crushed berries. Pomegranate, raspberry seeds, granite/gravel. Quite pretty and fairly fresh, with nice exuberance. No funk, really clean and light aromas. More mature flavors on the palate. Some forest floor, crushed berries. Very nice acid eruption on the finish with good tart tannins that linger fairly long. I like the way it lingers, with some puckering tartness. Really lovely finish. While there's some age showing on the palate, there isn't much on the finish; just a hint of forest floor. Really nice structure, really nice balance. Does feel a little muted. Still has plenty of exuberance though, so I wouldn't worry about holding these. Even if it won't get better from here, it's not going anywhere.

  • Muddy brick, garnet rim, great nose of cherry, red currants and
cedar. Leads to sleek yet mouthfilling body with diverse
terroir-like, earthy flavors on palate. Old classic claret style from
an average vintage but much appreciated by traditional Bordeaux
stylists. Very long finish. Just great. My heart is at.... 92at least

  • Calon Segur Thanksgiving vertical (Chestertown Maryland): Part of a Calon Segur tasting including '79. '88, '95, '00. this bottle was either way over the hill or corked. When we opened it, it immediately had a off-putting funk. While it eventually blew off and the wine was drinkable, it soon went south and was left behind given the other CS's that were at the table
