My first tasting of any older California Cabernet Sauvignon from 1961 proved worth the wait. Medium-bodied, earthy, leafy, cigar and bright red fruit notes on the nose and soft-textured palate. Fully mature, this was a treat.

Served alongside a 61 Lafon Roche..I preferred this wine. On the decline, however, interesting. Earthy, wood, secondary/tertiary notes. Still some ( little) fruit.

Medium garnet, tawny color. Clean, medium nose that took a few hours to open up. Dried fruit on nose with juniper, pepper, herbal scents, some leather. Balanced secondary flavors with dried fruit, elegant tannins, leather, savoury, some earth. An old, graceful, classic.

(Charles Krug Winery (Peter Mondavi Family) Cabernet Sauvignon Vintage Selection) Bricking medium red violet color; narrow, nutty, walnut, mushroom gravy nose; mature, dried red currant, dried cherry, cedar, menthol palate with near medium acidity; medium-plus finish (11.2% alcohol; 12 months in American oak; 84% of the fruit purchased from Ivan Schoch vineyard; good bottom of the neck fill on this bottle)
