Not reputed to be a great year, but a great winemaker has succeeded again. Almost Burgundian in its balance and lovely mouthfeel. I've been drinking VT for five decades and it still amazes me how they can turn out, given that they can be pretty hard when young (and even when not so young).
Beautiful light, clear ruby -with little bricking. Nose - earth and mushrooms, a little smoke - later more fruit comes through. Initially tight and acidic - fills out to a beautiful smooth texture with dried cherries and almost no tannins. After a couple hours, tannins become more prominent. Has a very elegant style. Great match with rack of lamb.
