Cloudy, medium garnet. Expressive nose with sour cherry, cured meat and tertiary, forest and mushroom notes. Excellent aromas and complex finish. Fully mature, drink up. Once wishes that Domaine Eugenie would still make wines like this instead of their extracted oaky Burgs.

slightly musty on opening but opened up, with sour cherry notes which have a slightly sweet acidic finish. Just a lovely bottle which as is typical of Rene Engel, a lovely balance and in no way tiring on the palate. Loved it

Burg Dinner with Friends (Tete Charcuterie - Chicago IL): Open an hour before serving. Started slightly musty, even still slightly backward. This kept opening and improving with more time in glass. Cross-section of cherries on nose and palate with subtle savory Asian five spice. Thanks for sharing, Winefool.

A 'Les brulées' comme il faut; very distinguished, not convincing by power but by purity, persistance and balance. also lovely colour and a very elegant bouquet with an earthy touch.

My first taste of the gateway drug. What an absolute beauty. This is what Burgundy is all about. Serious complexity on the nose, serious earthy Vosne terrior. Pure and lacy on the palate with tons of secondary notes. An incredible wine. Surpassed the lofty hype tonight and was my wine of the year in 2014.

(Engel René Vosne-Romanée Aux Brûlées) Medium-pale red with a strong amber caste. The nose started with a whiff of oak before settling for quite some time into a dirty, almost fixed sulfur motif. It wasn’t fixed as extended aeration brought a denser red fruit that eventually became more elegant and redcurrant in style. Good acidity with quite some extension in the mid-palate - this punch is delivered with little overt density but still impresses. The tannin has reasonably fine grain but still needs a little time to provide a perfect texture. This is not a powerhouse wine, but despite the initially disappointing aromatics there’s still some interest here.
