  • Gorgeous 1994 Forman Merlot. Beautiful and singular expression of merlot from this hills of east St. Helena.

Nose: beautifully perfumed with mature macerated black cherry, blackberry,, raspberry sauce, herbs and capsicum. Touches of browning now, but I enjoy that aspect. Palate: This is where Forman merlots truly shine. Fully resolved feel and not a tannin in sight. Impossibly silky with layers of black cherry, blackberry, granite, celery seed, thyme and a little bit of aged wood patina. Delicate perfumed finish.

Mix this in with some mature St. Emilion and it could shock a few right bank fans.

  • Some bricking but not a whole lot.Strong mushroomy aroma that fades but lingers with air. Still pretty robust feeling and plenty tannic. But not very interesting to drink. It's there but not expressive. Sort of a plum like flavor. It's really odd that way. I'm not sure I've ever seen a wine age so gently yet not be very expressive at all. I'll check back on night two and see if it opened up much.
