This wine hasn't been given a fair shake here, and yes, I am about to defend a New World wine. The concentration is good and the balance is ok. It's fruity, even a bit confected, but it is decidedly New World and it tastes not half bad. There are no harsh edges or greenishness. In that regard, it's better than the 2011 Alamos Malbec which was greenish and harsh. There's no way this is worse than the non-Reserva, same producer and vintage, which has a higher CT score. Would I run out and buy this? Of course not!!! But it does not deserve such a low score. It's also quite affordable. Enjoy!

Even after aerating I had to wait a good 30 minutes before this opened up enough to be drinkable. I have had decent bottles from previous years, and hoped that this was on par with that. It wasn't quite there.
The pepper notes were particularly good throughout, but the fruit aspects were a bit off balance or offensive at first. Eventually the cherry beds down a bit and the wine becomes palatable, if a bit simple. The same spice notes dominate from nose to front to finish, which isn't necessarily a bad thing.
Still, I won't purchase another from this vintage.
