Birthday Celebration with 4 Bordeaux, 3 from 1982 and 1 from 1985. Very floral nose of black cherry, black currants, and more black cherry, and a hint of Bret, big body, very tasty at first as the Bret wiped out any left over tannins, acid, and complexity, after 45 minutes the Bret was more than obvious, a disappointment when you wait 34 years, shucks. My #4 of 4.
Excellent wine - yet another proof of how great the 1982 vintage is! It has clean ruby color with little sediment considering the age. It is still close to its peak of maturity and looks and tastes younger than what you'd expect from a 34 years-old Leoville. It has classic spicy aromas of pepper and tobacco with notes of blackberry in the palette. There is still quite a bit of acidity, which contributes to the structure and character, but the wine is very smooth overall with medium body.
Definitely out of the case the best bottle. Tertiary with cedar, leather, lots of tobacco and some reminiscent dried fruits. Very fresh palate, losing a little bit on the palate, quite thin, medium. Time to drink it up.
1980s Bordeaux at Riverbend (Oregon): A resounding success. Round, deep, nuanced fruit with light tannins mostly resolved. A bit of classic wood with beautiful balance and complex fragrance. Steadily improved over the 3 hours it was available. Double decanted 60+ minutes ahead. Cork was removed in one piece...the 2012 Barton was the only other bottle having that distinction.
1982 Leoville Barton - deffinetly out of the case the best bottle. Tertiary with cedar, leather, lots of tabaco and some reminescent dried fruits. Very fresh palate, losing a little bit on the palate, quite thin, medium. Time to drink it up.
