Good fruit despite subtle but significant brett influence on the bottle. Never had this wine prior so I would assume it’s not normal. Despite that, it’s obviously a well made wine still enjoyed with Steak dinner.

Small dinner with friends old and new (Heirloom Café): A treat and a privilege to enjoy this generous bottle. Quiet on the nose - some bramble and dark fruits, but you really need to sniff - the palate though is bigger, some how lots and lots of very soft tannins - someone described it as being wrapped in satin sheets. Bordeaux on the nose, California in the mouth perhaps. There’s a there there and it was great to be able to have a third of a bottle to really contemplate - I’m not sure that I really understand this wine, though, and an education would be expensive. Some discussion of Brett at the table - I didn’t get it but there’s definitely some earthy complexity going on.

Heirloom with Leon and Laura (Heirloom, San Francisco): Stewed pepper pyrazines. Black fruit. Tertiary notes. Beautiful. Slight Brett. Slight oak. Delicious nose. Powerful on palate. Coffee. Dark fruit. Elevated bitter chocolate tannins. Silky. 14.5%. Holds it well. Feels 13.5.

Decanted briefly. This is still not ready for prime time although it's certainly drinkable with wagyu New York steaks, which we did. Very firm structure containing scrumptious blue and black fruit with great purity; oak quite present and distracting. These are not built for drinking even at the ten-year mark, and patience is required. 95+
