Nose of blackberry, black currant, cola and clove. Big and soft on the palate with dense black fruit that feels a bit over extracted, mocha, cola, wet mushroom and clove / tobacco on the med+ finish that falls short of nuanced flavors A few more years won't hurt though not sure it will improve dramatically.

PnP. Color is fairly opaque purple fading through a stripe of ruby red to a touch of orange at the edge. Aromas of ripe cherry, black cherry, boysenberry, vanilla, a touch of savory herbs and maybe a hint of wet earth. The wine has some legs. On the palate dark red and purple fruit with fine, drying tannin, a bit of wood, some vanilla and mocha leaving a fairly mouth-drying finish. Sampling before dinner, then drinking with dinner of pork stir fry with mushrooms and mixed vegetables over jasmine rice. With dinner, which has some Sriracha sauce, the wine is rich and a bit hot clashing with the sauce and with the fruit taking a bit of a step back and the finish shortening. After dinner (30 or so minutes after opening) we each had a neutral cracker and some ripe mango. After the palate cleansers the wine returned close to the previous balance of somewhat purple fruit, some heat and a fine, somewhat mouth-drying finish. Although the wine was good, it felt somewhat out of character towards purple color and purple fruit.

What a difference 5 years makes. Tannins have calmed down and the wine is much better balanced. Still a lot of life left.

Great wine. Best and unfortunately last of the case I have been drinking for a past few years.
