Champagne and claret (John's place, Croton): Out of words to describe this. It's close to the archetype of right bank Bordeaux that I could imagine; such elegance and brightness to the red and dark fruited flavours here and an array of herbal, smoky, sandalwood and other spicy notes, and more savoury tobacco and earthy flavours framing the fruit here. A silken, graceful texture, and a finish that just stays with you. Gorgeous wine, my WOTN in a lineup of many strong contenders.

This example of the 1989 La Conseillante is more backward than some but, particularly on the palate, it still struts its stuff. Full of violet, coffee bean, plum, ganache, and mineral, I find it totally irresistible. Beyond the aromatic elements there’s just something about the richness and floral elements intermingling which makes the heart beat a little faster.

Not sure about the provenance as this bottle was very advanced. Damn. I've had this wine several times years ago and it was as good as it gets. Not this time.
Recent experiences have been these are on the downswing and best days in the rear view mirror. They have fallen off the cliff fast, which is really shocking as just about every other 89 BDX are still wonderful. Damn
Decanted a few hours, needed it, regardless, its glory days are long gone.
