  • Definitely took a bit of a flyer on this one - fill was mid-shoulder and so you never know. It was a bit oxidized and madierized. Drinkable, but not perfect. Unfortunate but you can't win them all and the other two wines were drinking really well.

  • Blackberry, cigar box, leather, mushrooms, prunes
Some fruit, aged; a little thin but elegant, with a long graceful finish; well passed its prime, and in decline, but pleasing nonetheless
After 1 Hour: Similar but with notes of port and chocolate emerging on the nose, and firmer and fuller, with a presence of cocoa on the palate as well
After 2 Hours: Stronger sous bois emerging on both nose and palate but also more integrated and more charming, though the signs of decline are clear

  • Bought in about 1978 when Suburban wines in Yorktown changed hands and the new owner discovered cases of unsurfaced inventory in the basement that he didn't know he had. The first cork I have pulled that did not come out with the Durand. It was fully infused and crumbled upon removal. Decanted and then followed for 2 hours at the FKALBTG Zoom renewal.

The wine is in excellent shape. maybe a tiny touch of bricking, but not really noticeable. Appears to darken with air. Elegant smooth presentation with all tannin fully resolved. Earthy in a good way. Light red fruit. Definitely a smooth right bank, not a powerful left bank. Light red fruit and acidity evocative of citrus. a very light mixture of assorted classic Bordeaux flavors of age that, if strong, ruin a wine but if light, just add to complexity. What, you ask? Some forest floor, some smooth saddle leather and even a tiny whiff of Bordeaux bandaid. Another of the antiques bought in the 1970s for a single digit price bites the dust.

  • Colour still deep red, blindly judged by participants: this century or end of the nineteenth. Still some juiceness in the beginning of the taste. Some separation in the acidity but no aged acids. Fresh in the aftertaste. Good development in the glass. Or a very good bottle or quite understandable descriptions. Allard Botenga

  • Another fairly disappointing bottle of Clos Fourtet...
Where many other 1966 wines, both left and right bank, are holding up nicely this wine is well past its prime and tastes tired with dried out fruit, noticeable acidity and a murky earthy/forest floor aromas remaining.
mid-shoulder fill and poor quality cork clearly contributed.
    Drink up!
