  • A stellar bottle and a pleasant surprise after suffering through its oxidized and over the hill sibling at Thanksgiving. I'm glad there is one more and, since it looks well-aged as opposed to oxidized, I'm going to give that a real tasting. Then again, this most recent bottle gave up its life to benefit the party, a party at which everyone had a great time...and isn't that the point of great wine?

  • This was one of those "What the heck is that still doing here?" kinds of wines in that I knew it was on my list, but I never made an effort to pull it out of storage and drink. Well, it came with me to Thanksgiving dinner as a spare white wine so that if it were a disaster there wasn't going to be a big impact on my contribution for the evening. Well, opening it made my heart sink as it was obviously oxidized and very off on the nose. But, surprise surprise, it got better as the bottle sat opened and some of the noxiousness evaporated. My wine-fan brother-in-law even acknowledged that it was improving greatly, and my uncle (another wine fan) enjoyed it enough to refill his glass even though other bottles were on the table (even my 2000 meursault which was drinking beautifully). Still, based on the oxidation and initially unpleasant nose, I was tempted to give it a mid-60 score, but let it earn points for rallying at the end and being drinkable. The other two in my cellar look far less oxidized, so I'm hopeful that they'll surprise me and others when at least one of them comes with me to Christmas family dinner.
