  • Bottle sticker: In commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the coronation of QE2.
    VDP Auction 22/9/2013

Light gold. The sweet fruit leaps from the glass. Citrus, honey, ripe pear and mango, a dash of petrol. Medium to almost full in the mouth. Dense with the fruit sweetness, but it’s dry. The fruit sits on a seamless bed of mineral tension. Good length here. Terrific showing.

  • 10 years after Riesling tasting - 2012 (Restaurant Holz und Feuer, Kirchheim, Germany): Glass: Sophienwald Universal
Pale golden color. Clean nose, ripe, sweet fruit, floral notes, lots of crushed stones. On the palate not fully dry, beautiful sweet yellow fruit. Very mineral, nice tension and density. Good balance. Very long and fine. Potential for 5+ years. 93+

we had the opportunity to drink 12, 13 and 17 of hipping (Thanks Ingo). 12 is too sweet, 13 is more structured and 17 is the best wine because of style change (Keller) and the vintage. 92

  • Best bottle (@Private location): Glass: Josephinenhütte White/Universal
Decanted for about 1h. Pale golden color. Clean, youthful, complex nose with citrus, orange zests, herbs, a bit tobacco. Dense and complex, not yet fully opened.
12% abv. Legally, but not sensory dry. Wonderful mineral core, lots of ripe, zesty fruit. Deep and complex, but still closed. Beautiful length. Give it 5+ years to fully shine. 93++

  • Glass: Zalto Universal / Riedel Vinum Syrah
Wine for the 60th anniversary of the coronation of the Queen of England. Sold only at auction or as part of the famous “Keller case”. Drunk over three days, inspired by some fellow crazy wine geeks this week. I should have known better, but what aren’t we doing in the name of scientific research? :)
Clear, pale golden color. Clean, medium intense, youthful-developing nose. Very dense and compact, but also already multi-layered and promising with aromas of herbs, yellow stone fruit, salty mineral notes, orange peel, smokiness, tobacco. Already nice, but will be great once fully opened. Nose hasn’t really changed over the course of the three days.
Dry. Racy acidity, that is not yet fully integrated and at some points a bit sharp. How much power and concentration one can pack in a dry Riesling with only 12% abv. is really amazing! On the palate lots of electrifying tension and grip. Very dense and compact. Very mineral, some nice fruit (yellow stone fruit, citrus) in the back, smokiness. Long finish.
If you have enough bottles or get this at a Restaurant for a reasonable price: You might try it now. Otherwise: DO NOT TOUCH IT FOR THE NEXT 5+ years! You will be highly rewared! You can already feel its greatness, but it is way too young and not fully developed and still very closed. At the moment around 93, in the future 96++.
