Nose of tart red fruit, hint of bell pepper, palate of cranberry, other tart red fruit, modest barnyard, capsicum, and pleasant spice on the finish. It is incredibly elegant and delicious. Drink now or hold.
Intensely cedary, smoky, sharp, but with a richness and sweetness on the mid-palate that makes for a harmonious enticing whole. Seemed older than its years. I wouldn't have picked it as a hot year wine.
Vatan and Clos Rougeard Dinner (Ripple DC): Clearly the ripest of the quartet showing even some hints of balsamic on the nose but in a pleasurable non-flawed way. Notes of richer, redder berries on the palate with more cocoa notes. The finish had pleasurable cedar and herbal underpinnings. Obviously Clos Rougeard but the vintage is still standing out at this point.
Bought this for about $20 in 2005, stuck it in the fridge and then forgot about it. It was really wonderful to open this vintage, now 10 years old, and discover something really great. Still strong, fruity and not at all faded, like a good Bordeaux with some hints of those wonderfully weird Loire green peppers, but really just mostly red fruit and leather. Excellent. Newest vintage is selling for $80 -- glad I got this one at such a bargain.
15 Cabernet Francs: Transparent ruby red with slightly brownish edges. In the nose, there are some toasty aromas, lots of leather, dried green herbs, some green pepper. On the palate, it has an excellent structure, light and dark tones, fine acidity and tannins, lots of grip. It's very long and tickles the palate in the finish.

(Clos Rougeard (Foucault) Saumur-Champigny) Slightly bricking medium dark red violet color; nice herbal, tart currant nose; tasty, silky textured, rich but poised, tart red currant, mineral, herbaceous palate with depth; medium-plus finish 93+ points
(Clos Rougeard Saumur-Champigny) An intense, darkly coloured wine. On pulling the cork the nose reveals a blast of pure cassis, with a deep, concentrated character. Later the fruit disappears, leaving a meaty and brooding style, showing waves of nuances which pass through the arenas of cherry, dark chocolate, raspberry and white pepper. It is beautifully toned, and on the palate has a rich, creamy weight but with a little silkiness to the texture. Delicious, mouth-filling, but with quite a lot of grip behind it. The acidity has a freshness to it but it is borderline (reflecting the vintage), but it gives a decent balance. Fine length, where it continues to reveal its grippy nature. Excellent potential.
