A white & red Rougeard in an evening, a dream come true experience. Crafted from several clay & limestone plots, 50 to 70+ year old vines, indigenous yeast, 20 months in small barrels, bottled unfiltered. Deep ruby, garnet hue. Medium+ intensity multilayered aroma of smoke, bakery, mushrooms, earth, blueberries, chocolate, hints of blackcurrants, dried herbs. Medium+ body, concentrated and complex, vibrant and nervous structure, elegant velvety texture, saline, medium+ sandy soft tannins, long seductive finish.

My first Rougeard, and wasn't sure what to expect - esp. given the difficult vintage, but this blew me away! Wonderfully balanced, aromatic, silky mouth feel & not showing anything of the torrid vintage, as e.g. the v.good but obviously very ripe Druet Le Grand Mont does. Made me think of a very fine mature Margaux. I would wager that its drinking at peak, but def. no hurry. If anyone in the UK has some to sell, I would happily pay the £120 I paid for this again. Opened a Baudry Clos Guillot 2010 (A wine I seem to rate higher than anyone else here) afterwards and it seemed obvious, even boring by comparison.

Very interessting cabernet franc. Unique. but we ve missed something for a higher score. Fresh and a bunch of herbs in the nose. But lacking depth and complexity in the middle. Not worth the money

Drank with friends in New Jersey (with burgers... really!). Must be at peak, but will hold for many years still. Absolutely perfect to my taste, smooth and elegant with sweet fruit on the attack, swiftly balanced by the acidity into a long glorious finish. Tannins mostly resolved but still present enough to ensure a good period ahead.

(Clos Rougeard (Foucault) Saumur-Champigny) Slightly bricking medium dark red violet color; nice herbal, tart currant nose; tasty, silky textured, rich but poised, tart red currant, mineral, herbaceous palate with depth; medium-plus finish 93+ points
