  • As wonderful as 7/4/18 bottle and similar impressions. Enjoyed slowly with different friends over four nights; best on fourth night. This has years ahead of it. -2034

  • Last of 3 bottles. Brought to a catered event to celebrate a couple of anniversaries.
Stood the bottle upright for 4 days prior to opening which allowed all the sediment to fall to the bottom. The cork was soaked through but there were no signs of past seepage, and the fill was above base neck. The Durand could only net about 3/4 of the cork with the balance falling into the bottle. Decanted for 3 1/2 hours, then returned to a clean bottle (LOTS of sediment!) for transport to the dinner venue. A reasonably good showing. After an initial whiff of alcohol, the nose revealed red fruits, dried fruits and spice. All of these followed through to the medium plus bodied palate, along with a sweetness that was balanced by appropriate acidity. The finish was just a touch hot, but relatively long. A well-kept bottle should continue to hold for some time.

  • 2021 FTLOP Harvest Tour; 9/19/2021-10/2/2021 (Portgugal): Dark purple-amber in color. A touch of bottle stink. Some red fruit on the nose. Very rich flavor profile. While many said the fruit would never outlasts the tannins, there was tremendous structure here showing that this wine has held up well against its more flashy, popular, discussed siblings, the 1963.

  • Double decanted for sediment, then drunk over several days.

A fantastic mature port nose. Red fruits, dark chocolate, fruitcake, and nutty toffee notes. On the palate it is expansive, yet effortlessly graceful. Deep and complicated, yet effortlessly delicious. This wine is drinking at its apogee. Best on nights three and four. A wine of harmony and poise. Yum.
